RACING WITH AUGUSTA SKI & OUTING CLUB

You don't have to be Olympic material to race. That's the beauty of it. Actually, racing helps to improve your overall skiing. There are no age or skiing ability limitations to racing. And just think of the advantages of having a section of the slope all to yourself. You'll never know if you missed your calling if you don't even try it! Your fellow racers will take you by the mittens and show you how exciting and fun racing really is!

Crescent Ski Council organizes our races into two divisions, a senior and novice. Normally each division has a separated course setup. We race two sets of gates each race day. The top six skiers (pacesetters) run both courses to establish the official course times, from which your handicap is applied. Each division's racers are divided into flights of 10 skiers, based upon handicaps; thus you are skiing against racers of your ability and not Jean Claude Killey. The top three finishers for the day, in each flight, receive a prize. Each finisher accumulates team and individual points, 10 for first, and and on down to 1 for tenth place. The top Crescent skiers have gone on to national racing competitions.

Crescent Ski Council is conducting a race/ski camp out West, early in the season at Steamboat, Colorado, the week of December 7-14, 2003. Everyone gets a comprehensive training opportunity as a racer-- but you don't have to be a racer, or even take the racing part of the lessons program to participate! You can just learn to enjoy recreational skiing that much more!
